Using Canva Mobile App To Make Money (with Mwalimu Mkuu)

Of course! Now that you’ve got the hang of elements, let’s focus on the most important part of most designs: the text.

Lesson 2.3: Mastering Text and Fonts

Text is how you communicate your message. Whether it’s the title of an invitation or a description of a product, you need to make sure your words look good and are easy to read. In Canva, you can add and customize text with just a few taps.

Adding and Formatting Text

  1. Open the Plus (+) Button: Just like with elements, you’ll start by tapping the big plus button at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Find the “Text” Tab: In the menu that pops up, find the “Text” tab (it has a letter “T” icon).

  3. Choose a Text Style: You’ll see a few options:

    • Add a heading: For the main title of your design.

    • Add a subheading: For a smaller title.

    • Add a little bit of body text: For all the smaller details.

You can also scroll down to find pre-made text styles that combine different fonts, which is a great shortcut. Just remember to avoid the ones with a crown icon!

  4. Type Your Text: A new text box will appear on your design. Tap on it and the keyboard will pop up so you can type your words.

Choosing the Right Font

Once you have your text, you can change its font, size, and color.

  1. Tap the Text Box: Make sure your text box is selected. A menu will appear at the bottom.

  2. Change the Font: Tap on the Font Name at the bottom of the screen (it will be the first button, like “Open Sans” or “Arimo”). A huge list of fonts will appear.

    • Scroll through the list and tap on any font you like to see what it looks like on your design. There are thousands of free fonts, so have fun exploring!

    • Simple rule: Choose a font that is easy to read. Avoid fonts that are too thin, squiggly, or look too busy.

  3. Change the Size and Color:

    • Look for the Font Size button (it has a number and a minus/plus sign, like “24 – 24 +”). Tap this to make your text bigger or smaller.

    • Look for the Font Color button (it has an “A” with a color bar under it). Tap this to change the color of your text.

By mastering these simple skills, you’ll be able to create clear and professional-looking text that helps your message stand out.

Are you ready to move on to the final lesson of this module, where we’ll work with photos and mockups?
