Using Canva Mobile App To Make Money (with Mwalimu Mkuu)

Here is the last lesson for Module 2, where we’ll cover how to work with photos and create simple product mockups.

Lesson 2.4: Photos and Mockups

Photos are a powerful way to make your designs more attractive. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to add your own photos to the Canva app and do some simple edits to make them look great. You’ll also get an introduction to creating a product mockup, which is a very useful skill for selling things online.

Adding and Editing Your Own Photos

  1. Open the Plus (+) Button: Just like before, tap the big plus button at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Find the “Uploads” Tab: In the menu that pops up, look for the “Uploads” tab (it has a cloud icon with an arrow). Tap it.

  3. Upload a Photo: Tap the purple “Upload files” button. This will let you choose a photo from your phone’s gallery. The photo will then appear in your uploads section inside Canva.

  4. Add Photo to Your Design: Tap on the photo you just uploaded. It will automatically be added to your design.

Simple Photo Editing in Canva

Once your photo is in the design, you can make some quick changes to it.

  • Crop: Tap on the photo, then look for the “Crop” icon at the bottom of the screen. You can drag the corners of the photo to cut out any parts you don’t want.

  • Filters: Tap on the photo, then look for the “Filters” icon. You can tap on different filter options to instantly change the look of your photo.

Creating a Simple Product Mockup

A mockup is a simple image that shows what your product would look like in the real world. For example, if you’ve designed a calendar, a mockup would show the calendar on a desk. This makes your product more appealing to customers.

Here is how you can create a simple one for a design you made:

  1. Add a Background Photo: First, add a background photo of a desk, a wall, or any other scene you like. Search the “Photos” section in Elements for something like desk or table. Remember to choose a free one!

  2. Add Your Design: Tap on the design you want to use for the mockup from your “Projects” tab. It will appear on top of the background photo.

  3. Resize and Tilt: Tap on your design and resize it to fit the background. You can also tilt it a bit to make it look more realistic.

You have now completed Module 2! You’ve learned how to find and customize templates, use elements, master text, and work with photos. You have all the core skills needed to create professional designs.

Are you ready to move on to the next module, where we’ll apply these skills to create and sell your first digital products?
