Lesson 4.2: Pricing & Professionalism

You’ve learned how to create products and find customers. Now, it’s time to talk about the business side of things.

How to Price Your Designs

Pricing can be tricky, but here’s a simple way to think about it. You want your price to be fair to you (so you make a profit) and fair to your customer (so they feel like they got a good deal).

A great way to start is by looking at what other people are charging on local social media pages. You can also follow these simple guidelines:

  • Simple Invitations (Birthday, Baby Shower): Start with a low, attractive price, like KES 200 – KES 300. This makes it easy for people to say “yes” and get you your first few sales.

  • Complex Products (Wedding Invitations, Planners): You can charge more for these because they are more detailed and have a higher value. A good starting price is KES 500 – KES 1,000.

  • Business Products (Logos, Business Cards): These are very valuable to a business owner. You can charge KES 1,000 – KES 2,000 for a simple logo design.

Remember, you can always change your prices as your business grows and as your designs get better.

Being a Professional

Once you start getting customers, you need to act like a professional business owner. This is how you will get customers to come back and tell their friends about you.

  1. Be Fast and Reliable: When a customer orders a design, try to finish it and send it to them within 24 hours. This shows that you are serious and reliable.

  2. Communicate Clearly: Always be friendly and clear in your messages. When a customer sends you their details, read them back to them to make sure you have everything correct.

  3. Create a Simple Brand: You’ve already designed a logo and business card. Use those designs as your brand. Use the same logo on your social media profiles and on your WhatsApp profile picture. This makes your business look consistent and trustworthy.

Congratulations, you have completed the entire course! You now have the skills to create beautiful products with the free Canva app and the knowledge to start a real business from your phone.
