Lesson 3.3: Product Labels & Bottle Wrappers

This is a great lesson for creating a product that small business owners are always looking for. Many people in Kenya start businesses selling things like honey, homemade juices, oils, and other items. They all need a beautiful label or a wrapper to make their product look professional and appealing to customers.

Creating and selling these is a great business because:

  • High Demand: Every business, no matter how small, needs a professional label.

  • Recurring Business: If a customer likes your design, they will come back to you every time they need a new label.

  • Simple to Create: You can easily design these on your phone and sell them as a digital file that the customer can print.

Creating a Product Label

Let’s start with a product label that would be perfect for a honey jar.

  1. Start a New Design: From the Canva home screen, tap the plus (+) button and search for label or round label.

  2. Choose a Free Template: Look for a free template that has a simple, clean design.

  3. Add Placeholders: Just like with invitations, you’ll create a template that can be reused.

    • Change the product name to [Product Name].

    • Change the company name to [Your Company Name].

    • Add a section for details like Ingredients: and Net Weight:.

  4. Add a Business Touch: A great label should include contact information. Add a small text box at the bottom with placeholders for [Phone Number] and [Instagram Handle].

Designing a Bottle Wrapper

Bottle wrappers are also very easy to design and can be sold to juice or water sellers.

  1. Start a New Design: Tap the plus (+) button and search for bottle label or water bottle label. The template will be a long, thin rectangle.

  2. Pick an Appropriate Template: Look for a free template that is clean and has space for a brand name and product description.

  3. Make it Your Own:

    • Change the main title to [Juice Name].

    • Add a subtitle for the flavor, such as [Flavor].

    • Add a small section for Made with natural fruits.

You can now use these templates to attract new customers. When someone needs a label, you just make a copy of the template, add their business name and details, and send them the file!

You have now created a strong portfolio of products to sell! Are you ready to move on to the last lesson of this module, where we will design a simple logo and business card?
